In all circumstances, there is always pro and con, positive and negative present at the same time.
Which path to go, really depends on each individual.
Finding and going the positive is the correct path, just that sometime, to make that decision at the beginning will be very tough.
It needs lots of courage, wisdom and other stuff to make such "painful" decisions (because of delusion, habitual behaviour etc) but as it is the right path, no matter how tough it is. Sooner or later, one will never regret as it is beneficial to one and others.
The more we do it, the easily it will become.
There are also some useful "tools" to help one make the right decisions - teachings, other experiences, wisdom, compassion and ...
